When is the best time for a newborn shoot?
Ideally, newborn sessions should happen within the first 2 week when baby is still sleepy and will comfortably fit into the newborn props and stay in the newborn poses. If you have missed this stage, we can still take babies portraits, the session and the images will just be a little different.
I missed the window for a newborn photo shoot, when is the best time to get my baby photographed now?
If you have missed the newborn stage, you can still book in for a photo shoot but the images will be mainly focused around baby lying on their back and it’s unlikely we will get any of baby sleeping.
When your little one starts to do tummy time, this allows for some more variety in the type of images we can get. A really great time to book in for a photo shoot is when your baby can sit up on their own, which is generally when they are 6 or 7 months old.
When should I book?
If you would like to book in for a newborn shoot, I strongly recommend making the booking before the baby arrives, while you are pregnant as those first 2 weeks can fly past in an instance and I may not have any availability if you only contact me after baby is born.
If you contact me when you are pregnant, I will make the booking based on your due date but we can easily change this date if needed if baby comes early or late.
How long will the photo shoot take?
Newborn photo shoots usually take about 3 hours as we need to work around the baby- depending on their feeding, cuddling and sleeping requirements. For all other sessions, please allow 1 hour.
Will the baby be cold during the shoot?
It is common to take some naked photos during newborn shoots and some in nappy photos for older babies. Don’t worry, your little one will not be cold as I have a thermostat in the studio which will be set at an appropriate temperature for the shoot and the babies age.
The studio can get very warm, especially during a newborn shoot, as we need to keep baby warm and cosy so please wear light clothing yourself so you don’t overheat!
Can we get pictures with parents and siblings too?
Of course this is no problem- I am always happy to include this as part of your session at no extra cost.
Where is the studio located?
The studio is located in Co Meath, approx 1 km outside the little village of Kilmessan.
Will my baby be safe?
Yes safety is my number one priority during all photo shoots. I’ve completed a newborn safety training course and I will only ever attempt to get an image that is safe to get.
Do I need props or outfits?
No you don’t need to bring anything as I have a wide selection of hats, headbands, outfits and props in the studio. If you have something of sentimental value that you would like included in the photo shoot, please feel free to bring this along and I’ll use that too.
How do I choose the images I want to buy?
About 3-4 weeks after your photo shoot, you will come back to the studio to view the photo gallery and choose what images/products you would like to purchase. You are more than welcome to bring along grandparents, godparents, or anyone who would like to purchase some of the photos too.
What products can I buy containing my favourite images from the session?
You will be able to buy printed photos (mounted and un-mounted), canvas, birch wood photo blocks, framed photos photo album or digital prints. A full list of products available can be found in the Services section on the website.
Do you edit the images afterwards in Photoshop?
Yes I retouch all my images in post production to remove flaky skin and blemishes etc to ensure baby will look their best in their portraits.
